DST Output Reaches 10-Year Milestone
With Electronic Document Presentment
and Payment Solutions
Business unit's growth is consistent with consumer adoption
rates of online billing and statement delivery
EL DORADO HILLS, Calif., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - DST Output this month celebrates a decade of providing electronic presentment and payment solutions to hundreds of its customers for consumer and CSR (customer service representative) viewing via the Web, and retrieval solutions via CD/DVD. The longstanding leader of printed statements and other customer communications is also looking toward the future: Its "eSolutions" offerings have demonstrated strong growth in recent years as consumer adoption rates of online billing and statement delivery have increased.
According to TowerGroup, 41.1 million U.S. consumer households adopted online bill payment as recently as 2005. This is up from 27 million in 2003; 12.5 million in 2001 and 5.5 million in 1999. With today's computer savvy and younger generations reaching bill-paying age and consumers becoming more at ease with electronic presentment and payment, adoption rates are projected to continue rising.
"There is a growing trend and expectation of electronic access," explains Frank Delfer, DST Output's executive vice president of Technology and chief technology officer. He cites a 2007 study by the Electronic Document Systems Foundation that states "firms are stepping up their electronic delivery efforts" with more than 50 percent making more than half of their documents available over the Internet.
"Our technologies, processes and services are in place to meet consumer and business demands of increasing electronic access. We have 10 years of proven success, and we're set up and ready for many more to come," Delfer continued.
DST Output is one of a few companies to prevail in the e-commerce industry through the dot-com era. Eight years ago, DST Output's electronic services were provided under the division YourAccounts.Com -- so named to compete with dot-com startups. When the dot-com bubble burst in 2001, many of DST Output's competitors disappeared and the division was re-branded to DST Output.
As an integrated print and electronic provider, DST Output is positioned to take advantage of increasing consumer adoption rates. Its eSolutions capabilities of today include secure e-mail delivery, electronic document delivery for Web presentment and payment, bill distribution through consolidators, as well as viewing and retrieval offerings in Web and CD/DVD media.
As a result of the SEC's recently adopted Internet Availability of Proxy Materials Rule, DST Output and its parent company, DST Systems, Inc., worked together to provide a presentment solution for mutual fund companies to electronically deliver proxy materials via the Internet. The integrated solution includes on-demand production and delivery of printed materials at shareholder request, as well as proxy voting capabilities via Web, IVR (interactive voice response) and mail.
With its Campaign Management software, DST Output clients are able to target and customize content and graphic images at the individual statement level for their printed statements and bills, as well as for their electronic customer communications. According to Delfer, the tie-in between the print and electronic targeted capabilities is getting more attention and interest with the advent of TransPromo (transactional communications that also deliver promotional messages).
"It's an exciting time for DST Output, with our innovative technology and electronic services capabilities," Delfer said. "We've developed a strong and secure eSolutions foundation over the past decade and that will surely serve us and our clients well into the future."
